Rip Off Wednesday #16: PUFG

On Rip-Off Wednesdays, we steal someone else's idea and translate it into an ipost.

Today we will be ripping off Spencer Green's frighteningly thorough PUFG (Parallel Universe Film Guide), which is itself a twisted rip-off of imdb.

1. Choose a movie.
2. Change the title to cleverly disguise your movie and upost it along with its year of release.
3. Write a small blurb about the film.

BONUS: Make up actors names, film trivia, and/or notable quotes

Rip-Off Wednesday #15: Show and Tell

On Rip-Off Wednesdays, we steal someone else's idea and translate it into an ipost.

Today we will be ripping off aggregators of cool things such as notcot.org or just about any tumblr site out there.

upost links to things you like, that interest you, or that you just want to share. Tell us why too.

NOTE ABOUT LINKS: Intense Debate (the commenting system ipost | upost uses) is notoriously persnickety about links. We suggest posting the full link without any punctuation marks near it. No periods, colons, semi-colons, parentheses, etc. connected to the link or it won't work.

Ukraine is game to you?

By special request, today we will be playing a geography game. When you're done, upost your "traveler IQ" and either brag about being a geography nerd or be a bully and make fun of the geography nerds.

Find the quiz here: http://www.travelpod.com/traveler-iq/game1.

Thanks to Hannah for the ipost.

Name That Thing

It's time to play your favorite game: Name That Thing. Even though it's your favorite, you might not know how to play. Here are the rules:

1. Pick a thing (it can be ANYTHING: a person, place, idea, moment, instance, event, hypothetical situation, nonsensical blather, etc.). The more creative and specific it is, the better.
2. Post a comment that says, "Name that thing."
3. Other people will try to guess your thing by responding to your comment.
4. After there have been at least 3 guesses, the person who said "Name that thing" gets to choose the winner. They will reveal what the "thing" was and explain why the winner was the closest to guessing correctly. This is called the "Judgment".

Vowel Movement

1. Choose a word with multiple vowels (do not tell us what it is).
2. Replace all the vowels with a single (or double) vowel repeated in each space (ie. Use the same vowel throughout the new word: igloo becomes ugluu, poodle becomes peedle).
3. Define the new word.

Bonus: Guess what other people's original words were.

Absurdly Hypothetical Friday #2: Evil Evil AOs

Let us say we are high-ranking admissions officers, controlling the makeup of and access to some of the best academic programs in the country.

1. upost some inane and/or impossible application questions intended to terrify the bright and eager young minds applying to our institution.
2. What will their answers "reveal" about the candidates?

Thanks to Ellie D for the ipost. And good luck with those apps!

Categories & Dogegories

Choose a category of goods (eg. beer) and upost a sentence or paragraph using brand names, products, or words/phrases specific to that category. You can also add on to other posts if you come up with other products.

Bonus points if your sentence is somehow related to the category.

It's too late to come up with a better ipost

The old fill-in-the-blank adage, "It's never too late to..." is clearly not true. upost some things that it is definitely too late to do.

Absurdly Hypothetical Friday #1

It is the 14th century. Instead of hands, you have a sword and a plastic robot pincher claw (Double Dare style). Is your quality of life higher or lower than the average peasant?

Absurdly Hypothetical Fridays, I have a feeling your days are numbered.

Old School Celebrity Death Match

Who would win in a no-rules fight to the death: 50 Cent unarmed or the Hanson brothers wielding Swiss army knives?

NOTE: 50 can steal any/all of the knives and use them.

Thanks to Chris T and phottto for the ipost.

T.G.I.WHAT?

The acronym TGIF traditionally stands for "Thank God it's Friday." What else might it stand for?

Wednesday, July 9, 2008

I should have said THAT!

Have you ever had a confrontation with someone (perhaps an ex-friend, a rude stranger, a trash-talking hobo who was an ex-friend) that you somehow left unfinished? You didn't get to throw in that last-second dagger or were too dumbfounded to talk?

Now's your chance. upost an explanation of the situation and then what you would have said/done if a) you thought of it in the moment, b) it been socially acceptable, c) you had bigger balls/ovaries, etc.

Gandalf makes a mean firework

Today is Independence Day in the US and it will be celebrated with fireworks displays that will illuminate the night sky with brilliant colors and loud explosions.

Remember the awesome dragon fireworks from the beginning of The Lord of the Rings? No? It doesn't matter. upost some ideas for amazing fireworks that can do a lot more than shoot, spin, or go bang.
